  • Time: 6:00-8:00pm

Summer Kickoff Concert:

I’ve been cooking up something new for this year’s showcase and CANNOT wait! Just like always, EM Vocal Studio members will sing lead vocals on classic dance hits, accompanied by keyboard, electric guitar, electric bass, drumset, and harmonized background vocals. BUT . . . this year I’ve curated a whole show for you guys and all of your family and friends! Our concert will start with opener, Nicole McMahan. She’ll be performing acoustic originals and covers. EM Vocal Studio is the middle act – rocking with the full band of pro musicians, and background vocals from your EM Vocal Studio peers! And finally we’ll have our concert headliner Gavin McMahan with full band. I am so excited to have these fabulous musicians help us send off our summer in the absolute best way. This is not an event to miss!

  • Date: Friday, May 17, 2019
  • Time: 6:30-9:00pm
  • Location: EM Vocal Studio (outdoor)
  • Student Call-Time: 6:00pm
  • Student Attire: Whatever you would wear if you were a professional pop/rock star! But keep it classy: no flip flops, no hoodies . . . blue jeans are probably not a good idea, though they might be appropriate if you’re singing country or rock. Put some thought into what you’ll wear, and how you do your hair (and make-up, if you are a person who wears make-up).
  • Audience Attire: Anything you want!
  • Recital Fee: $75
  • Admission: $0
  • Note: This is a backyard concert! Bring lawn chairs or blankets to sit on. Hot dogs, chips, and sodas will be available for purchase. Guests should be prepared to give all of the energy they can to the performers. We want you dancing and singing along! Loud children and babies are totally welcome!

  • Audience Attire: Anything you want!
  • Recital Fee: $25
  • Admission: $0

The Broadway Review is one of my favorite events of the year! I love the formal recital hall setting, and the gorgeous piano! Each of the students will perform a short monologue before singing their Broadway piece. Our goal is excellent story-telling! It can be such a powerful thing. I am so excited to be doing our second annual event with the Orem Piano Gallery. What a beautiful space!

Creator’s Concert:

  • Date: TBD
  • Time: 6:00-7:30pm
  • Location: Painter’s Palette 739 W 100 N, American Fork, UT 84003
  • Student Attire: Nice Casual
  • Audience Attire: Anything you want!
  • Recital Fee + Ticket Prices: $60 per student (two tickets, purchase additional tickets for $25 apiece)

I am really looking forward to this one! This will be a night of artistic vulnerability . . . vocalists will be performing original compositions, and accompanying themselves on their favorite singer-songwriter covers. Meanwhile, everyone in the audience will be painting! Each ticket-holder can select a piece of pottery with a value of $15 (or can select a higher-priced item and pay the difference at the register). At the end of the night, we’ll all leave our creations at the studio to be glazed and fired in the kiln. You can pick up your pieces a week after the concert. I am always compelled by mixed-media events, and cannot wait to offer such an event with EM Vocal Studio! Creativity all around!

Acoustic Lounge Night:

  • Date: TBD
  • Time: 7:00-8:00pm
  • Location: EM Vocal Studio Basement Venue
  • Student Attire: Semi-Formal
  • Audience Attire: Dressy Casual
  • Recital Fee: $75 (includes 2 tickets)
  • Admission: $5

Our goal with this one is to replicate a cool lounge or club gig. Students will be performing medium-tempo covers with keyboard, acoustic guitar, and percussion. We’ll also have a professional bartender serving classy mocktails!

Winter Group Lesson:

  • Date: TBD
  • Time: 6:00-7:00pm

  • Lecture Concert with Ryan Innes!!!!

RYAN INNES

Growing up in tiny Thatcher, Ariz., Innes was raised in the traditional musical environment of a small town. As a youth, he was classically trained on piano and sang in the Phoenix Boys Choir and local church musical groups. At 24 years old, he applied to the media music program at Brigham Young University in Provo, Utah, a city that has become a mecca of emerging talent, producing such artists as Imagine Dragons, Neon Trees and Lindsey Stirling.

During his time at BYU, Innes gained confidence as a performer while singing with the popular a cappella group Vocal Point. With his stirring and powerful voice, Innes was often featured as a soloist for the group, further honing his talents and developing confidence on stage.

In 2010, Innes recorded a self-titled EP produced by R Legacy Entertainment. Featuring covers of classics like Ray Charles’ “Georgia On My Mind” and Amos Lee’s “Colors”, the record showcased Innes’ penchant for soulful and vocally charged productions. While working on the EP, Innes spent time in Nashville and further developed his songwriting skills. Returning to Utah, Innes began performing solo shows, promoting his EP and gaining a loyal following with his original songs and captivating covers.

In 2013, Innes took a break from his residency to try out for NBC’s The Voice. Singing John Mayer’s “Gravity”, Innes quickly received a four-chair turn and picked Usher as his coach. Mentored by Usher and fellow grammy-winner Pharrell Williams, Innes performed a rendition of Bill Withers’ “Ain’t No Sunshine” in the battle rounds, solidifying his place as a crowd favorite.

After The Voice, Innes returned to Utah to focus on writing music for a debut album. He has co-written with Tyler Glenn of Neon Trees, Stuart Maxfield of Fictionist and McKay Stevens and Nate Pyfer who co-wrote Kaskade’s 2014 grammy-nominated track “Atmosphere”.

Innes is currently hard at work on his debut album, one that he hopes can capture the ups and downs of life, giving voice to the listener’s own feelings of struggle and hope. Though he has expanded his sonic palette and does not shy away from experimenting with new production techniques, Innes maintains that what is most important is the song’s ability to speak to the listener. The song, he says, is king.
