Originally from San Diego, Jessica Baynes holds a Bachelor of Fine Arts in Modern Dance from the University of Utah. Jessica has presented dance research at TEDxSaltLakeCity, United Nations Civil Society, and National Dance Education Organization.
She has taught on faculty at the University of Utah School of Dance and the Ballet West Academy.
She has also guest taught for institutions such as Brigham Young University, Weber State University, Dance for Parkinson’s Disease, and Movement Exchange.
Jessica has spent over a decade studying Irish dance and Flamenco. Baynes spent her teenage years touring through the southern California region with the Sabor Andaluz Dance Company and various Latin bands as a Flamenco dancer. Within one year of taking up modern dance and ballet, Jessica was accepted to San Diego School of Creative and Performing Arts.
In 2017, Baynes founded an organization called Healing In Motion Dance, which offers rehabilitative ballet classes to patients with neurological conditions that impair motor-function such as Multiple Sclerosis, stroke, and traumatic brain injury.
Jessica further cultivated her interest in global dance diplomacy by serving as president of the Utah International Dance Exchange program and conducting research on the physical and mental health benefits of children in the U.S. foster care system with the international dance outreach organization Movement Exchange.
Jessica’s mission of promoting inclusivity in dance has brought her to teach at Center for Children Foster Home, San Diego Youth Services Summer Camp for recently adopted children, National Dance School of Panama, Malambo Orphanage, Aldea Orphanage, University of Utah Healthcare, and several of her local medical clinics and senior centers.
Baynes also holds an Authentic Pilates™ Teacher Certification from the United States Pilates Association and the New York Pilates Studio©. She is passionate about facilitating community and empathy through dance and performance and education.
